New Orleans – Continuing efforts to reduce the number of crashes, especially fatalities, NOPD’s Traffic Unit will conduct ‘DWI Saturation Patrols’ this evening (June 18, 2026).
The patrols will begin at approximately 7:00 p.m. and continue overnight.
This effort provides extra officers on the streets of New Orleans who will be specifically looking for signs of impaired driving.
Motorists will not see specific checkpoints, but may be pulled over in any of the city’s eight police districts if officers see signs of impairment or other violations.
So far in 2026 the number of fatal accidents in the city is down 20% over 2025.
“This reduction shows that strategic enforcement saves lives,” says NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick. “Our officers are committed to protecting drivers, passengers and pedestrians through proactive patrols and targeted traffic operations.”
NOPD urges all drivers to remain alert, avoid distractions, wear seatbelts, and do not drink and drive.
If you suspect someone is driving impaired, please call 911.
