A recent report by The Guardian reveals that a Sheraton hotel in Alexandria, Louisiana, has been used by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain immigrants, including a father and his teenage son, in apparent contradiction to Marriott’s 2019 pledge not to cooperate with ICE.
The father and son were reportedly held at the hotel for four days after their arrest in New York and were subsequently deported to Ecuador. A local source familiar with hotel operations claimed that ICE contractors have been using the hotel to detain immigrant families and unaccompanied minors since its renovation in late 2023. The source observed ICE contractors known to assist in the transfer of unaccompanied minors operating at the Sheraton as recently as June of this year. The Guardian+1
